Opinions on my next possible toy

Afternoon all, im torn on what to get for my next car. At the moment i drive a modified Astra VXR which is good fun.
Either i could carry on chasing power in the astra (which im worried about the choccy gearbox it has, £2000 fix once, not if it goes)or do i get something else.
I have around £6000 to spend which is the astra's rough value.
Toying with ideas such as evo, hawkeye scoob or even something older like S14 etc etc
What you guys think? Any advise would be great!

As you appear to be knowledgeable on the VX tuning front have you considered a VX220?
I would have thought a 2.2 N/A would have been in budget and has the benefit of being lighter than the turbo. Also, when the tuning bug takes hold the sky appears to be the limit.

Torque isn't so important in a lightweight car but each to their own think Caterham R500 compared to those with a V8 lump in it. I would rather have a lightweight car with a revvy engine.
People only talk highly of the supercharger kits for these and I would suggest that more torque would be useable throughout the rev range too. Happy hunting.

I think im pushing towards Jap but always avoiding them in the past i know very little. Mainly been a VX and MG turbos
I loved my Vx220 Turbo, only got rid because of kids on the way, the turbo would be out of budget though.
I have an Evo now, 6k would get an Evo 6 which I personally love (mine is an 8). Even in stock form you are looking at 0-60 in the 4's and they make a practical car providing they are looked after. The main thing to look for is going to be rust on an Evo and one as old as a 6 fresh imports are ideal, or one well undersealed and kept up to.
If you can live with an auto you could probably get a decent Supra for that money too, maybe even a standard TT 6 speed. Not looked at prices recently though. Both would have plenty of mod options in the future if you went the jap route.

I'd have to disagree with that, the R5's are getting rarer & quite sought after these days, the vast majority of them now seem to be very good quality well cared for examples.Was even thinking of perhaps a Renualt 5 turbo, but finding one that a chav hasnt rapped will be difficult
They're very good despite being the worst combination of backwards engine power, fuel injection & itb's is the way forward for a proper fun toy
