Which tyres, good quality and decent price??

I have just bought a 2nd hand car and need recommendations on tyres please. I want to buy them online and get fitted at the same time I get my alloys refurbed. I don’t really want to pay the earth but I want tyres that are a decent quality.

Size on the car now is 225/40/ZR18 92W XL.

I am sure there are many to choose from but don’t necessarily want to pay over £120/tyres, preferably under £100.

Something like Falken, Yokohama etc offer good mid priced tyres.

I drive a car with Nexen tyres last week. They seemed fine in wet and dry at normal driving speeds.

You'll get a lot of different answers on this topic though as there isn't a right and wrong answer... So be prepared to just make your the decision that fits your needs and budget.

OP, plenty to chose from. Uniroyal as mentioned are a good start, Hankook, Vredestein, Avon (to a degree), Fulda, Yoko (expensive now), Toyo. Just search for mid range tyre reviews.

£100 fitted or plus fitting?
for under £100 fitted you are really going to struggle and will have to compromise
what do you want? good wet grip? good dry grip? good wear? you might be able to have 2

I've got Avon zv5s on my car (fwd diesel) and they've been superb. The fronts have given me about 30k miles, and the rears the same, but look like they'll last 4 times that!
I'm refitting the fronts with zv5s in the very near future.

If you're interested in wet grip, Goodyear Assymetric 2 are excellent, and not barmy money either. I use them on a 400 brake Evo for reference.

I had Uniroyal Rain Sport 2 in 225/40/18 on my Mondeo ST TDCi & Focus ST.

Excellent price (most recently as £100 each in ATS), good grip in all conditions & last well.

Recommended by me.

I'd be looking at Kumho, Hankook, Vredestein. Plenty to choose from in the mid-range price bracket imo.

Asda Tyres are doing Pirelli PZero Rossos for 106.10 each fitted in that size. I had four 235/40/18s supplied by them and fitted by F1 Autocentres on their behalf about two weeks ago. The fitter said he couldn't get anywhere near that price.

Had a pair of 225/40/18 Falken's fitted last week for £198 all-in for the pair. That was at Supertyres in Maldon, Essex.

So I read on occasion, but they seem to cope perfectly well with 250 bhp through the front wheels on the Saab in much the same way as PS3s did.

Can't comment on the nth degree of handling prowess because, frankly, they're better in that regard than the 9-5 Aero wearing them
