What car, with a slight twist!

I moved to Holland and motors here cost the earth.
For used cars, you can be looking at spending 3,000 Euro for what would be a sub 1,000 GBP motor back in Blighty.
I would therefore be grateful for any car suggestions:
My requirements:
- Budget: 1500 GBP at UK prices
- 5 seats, and a spacious enough boot to fit a pram and two suitcases
- Ideally 30mpg average minimum
- Ideally would also be fun to drive
Other factors:
- Cars here are taxed on weight - so the heavier it is, the more it costs. E.g. a big estate like a V70 would be around 1200 EUR per year in road tax.
- Cars 25 years old are road tax exempt.
Any thoughts?

Get the special Audi A2 100L that they only did in LHD if you can find one within budget. It's a 1.2 TDI and light weight. Although not petrolhead material I think they're quite interesting.

I remember it's the A2 3L because it does 100km on 3L of fuel.
How does this compare to prices out there? You might be able to get it for less than £2k and drive it back? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271451537348

It's the official weight of the car.. They don't individually weigh them. Also, diesels are taxed more heavily than petrol. Furthermore, importing a car from the UK is probably not worth it as you have to pay an import tax on the car.Simon.

I thought you were ok if you had owned the car for longer than 6 months when you went to NL?Perhaps not quite big enough but you can get a decent mk7 civic type s for around that.
2.0, 160bhp, 38mpg (combined), circa 1250kg and very roomy...biased as bought one today but hoping it'll be a practical, reliable, warm hatch. (if rather dumpy looking!)
Was also considering Leon cupra/focus st170 amongst others (I wanted 5 doors) but the Honda turned up.
Octavia vrs if the above are a bit small?
