I can speak for the Merc ML but not the Cayenne or Touraeg.

I have had my ML420 for 6 years now having traded in an ML270. I won't be trading in the ML420 as its a wonderful car and there is no ML in the current range to match it.
Choose the trim level carefully though, Sport is the most popular and comes with man made leather ( wtf ) and the SE has smaller wheels but real cow skin.
Anyway they are very well built, superb for the family, long trips, business meetings, etc etc. Very refined, smooth and powerful. An iron fist in a velvet glove. Brilliant in the snow as well, I put winter tyres on every year and its unstoppable in the remote area where I live.

I pay £35 per month for a Mercedes service Plan which gives me a service every year and the service I receive has been excellent. With an authorised Mercedes stamp in the book you also receive Mercedes roadside assistance.
Both my ML's have been absolutely reliable and I would recommend you look at one seriously.

Thanks for the detailed reply. Need to look more closely at them and see what discounts we can get on them. I have two small dogs which would be in the boot so a large boot is a must and having a small baby and planning on having another space is a must.

My brother has a new 3.0 tdi Toureg and my parents a 2011 ML350cdi

The Toureg is light-years ahead in terms of ride, interior quality, refinement, kit, design, performance etc

There are supposedly some fantastic deals to be had on Touaregs. However, I called a couple of brokers to find out about the deals they were advertising and neither had access to any stock. Facelift is due within the next couple of months, and production on pre-facelift has ceased

My wife and I have a Cayenne Diesel> lovely car, never put a foot wrong, lovely interior, great to drive. Not the fastest car on the planet, I'd consider the V8 diesel if you want more poke, but the v6 goes plenty well enough. It is also averaging 36mpg since we got it without effort.

Cherry on top is the best residuals (overall, not just for SUVs).

We have a Cayenne Diesel. Didn't bother driving anything else as we sort of trusted Porsche to have done some homework!

Conservative wheel sizes and air suspension on the cayenne turns them into a seriously plush ride.

I'm a big fan of MLs though, they're lovely.

OP said new or nearly new. The 2013 onwards are wonderful, massively updated interiors with nicer surfaces etc. No idea on older ones other than the ML63 AMG which was dripping in carbon and leather.
The newer ones are on my radar at the moment and after test driving the ML and GL I'm left very impressed with how well appointed they are, better than most, certainly.

Thanks for the replies. I will contact my vw dealer to see what kind of money you would be getting off them. Having not long purchased a Golf R of them I would hope to get a big discount.....

Did you get a deal on the Touraeg?

I have recently ordered a Golf R on a PCH deal. Have just asked the same dealer for a PCH quote for a Touraeg. I assume that the depreciation will make a lease quite expensive but as you dont see that many on the road then maybe they are willing to do a deal....
