Moving to England from US – What Car to Bring?

My company will ship one car with me on the trip. I will also get fuel off-economy so gas mileage really isnt a concern.
Im not sure how the public transportation or weather is so this will also factor in. Do most places you rent have a covered garage?

I will only have one car with me, what car should I bring?
I could bring something and then buy a daily once in England.

Was thinking about the following (I will be buying used):
C6 Corvette Z06, but dont think it will be of any use in winter ;p
3 Series
Porsche 911
Cayman

I want something that will be fun, doesnt have to be too practical and would rather buy the car in the US and have the company ship it over due to cars being cheaper here.

Any other forums I should check out?

Steering wheel will also be on the correct side of the road which will help with roundabouts and overtakes....

You'll have to get the lights/indicators converted to UK/European specification to register the car and then have the car tested under SVA (single vehicle approval) rules.

Also please take into consideration that if you've owned the car for less than 6 months import duty will be due at 10% of the value including shipping costs and further tax of 20% will be added to the import duty.

Logic would suggest the thing to bring would be something American or otherwise difficult to get hold of in the UK - if/when you come to sell it, you'll recoup a good proportion of the value due to the rarity factor. However with something like a Porsche 911, LHD will just be a liability when there's plenty of RHD examples for buyers to look at.

Having made the reverse trip I really wouldn't bother - and would just get something when you get to UK. As others have said just too many downsides. Will be difficult to insure - import car, performance car, American driver, no UK driving license, no experience driving in UK, no NCD.

depends where you are going, but assuming london, i'm guess you're doing something fairly well paid and your company will giving you a place to live, maybe rent you a half million £ property, sounds good yeah? swimming pool, double garage, friendly neighbourhood
Well it won't be like that anywhere within an hour's travel of london

1959 Chevy Impala SS convertible or coupe
Second gen Ford Thunderbird Skyliner
66-70 Ford Mustang Fastback
67 Pontiac GTO
1970 Dodge Challenger 440R/T Magnum
C2 Chevreolet Corvette Stingray(63 is the pick)
Plymouth Superbird

Loads of others as well, but anyone of those would be very unusual here.

Sounds good but probably won't fit in your average garage.

not everywhere here will have a garage and most that do will be big enough for only small cars

id say bring whatever you can resell for the most , then rock about in some cheap euro barge that are expensive in the u.s

Don't bring a Pontiac Aztek. There aren't any here, but it will be as instantly recognisable as the Batmobile, and people will constantly say "Let's cook" to you.

SOmething with a huge engine, big and V8 and pushrods. Really loud and garish.

And you have to fly american flags out the window and woop every 10 minutes

Going by the prices on Auto Trader, any sort of Mustang appears to be a decent bet. Then, as said, shift it on & buy something Euro that's either difficult to get or expensive in the US & ship it back.

You're in a really good position to make some money here, especially with a mustang or something classic like that. The only issue I can see you having is the company getting pissed off with you selling a car that they paid to ship over when they thought you would keep it. Unless you can come up with a good excuse. "I... erm... didn't really like the car anymore ".
