GGGRRR Allianz computer says no!
Discussion
Have wholly recommended allianz insurance over the last year, been great throughout, very flexible policies. For the first time I was happy to stay with an insurer for year 2!
Did a quote an allianz website, came out about £20 cheaper so phoned them.
Asked them to compare and check I hadn't missed anything. They confirmed correct and could see the same price I could.
Went to buy and now the price is higher!. 10 min on hold and she comes back and has corrected the price to what I was quoted.
Website doesn't ask about registered keeper so she has to phone the underwriter.
Go through all the dribble drabble and information they have to recite, 20 min in now, and she says ohh, there is an error.
Off to the underwriters she goes, again, third time, and comes back and tells me because they have a new database I have failed the identity check, even though I'm an existing customer! She need various documents.
I'm away for the next week and as I've been on the phone 25 min now I want to get this sorted ASAP. I start collating documents on the computer to email and she says oh I need to send them to the underwriters and it takes 4 hours to check them.
I suggest I buy the policy and send in the documents within 7 days, much like you would a NCB proof. Wouldn't have it. In the end I just said sod it, you've lost a customer, I'll go elsewhere.
I'm just hoping I don't have the same palaver with the next one.

The informations not changed, I've not moved, changed job, changed car, anything. It's their system that's changed. They should be doing what they can to ease the process for existing customers.
I started to relent and emailed them the documents with a few lines venting my frustrations.
Then thought sod it and am now on money supermarket looking for a competitive product.

Whenever I buy insurance I firstly do the rounds on Quidco to see if any of the cashback offers can make a difference. Same goes for travel insurance and stuff like that.
That said, Aviva have always been good to me and able to knock a few quid off when it's renewal time, so haven't been down the cashback route for a couple years now.

Well Money Supermarket has improved. Keeps a lot of your data (if you don't mind that sort of thing) and very quick to use now.
Went with direct choice, better cover and £50 cheaper. (£188 for 14 plate Golf GTD)
I'll try not to be too smug if Allianz bother phoning back.
Who actually underwrites it? Direct Choice seem to be a broker of some description - would be funny if Allianz were the underwriter Went with direct choice, better cover and £50 cheaper. (£188 for 14 plate Golf GTD)

It's Acromas.
Ive still needed to send licences and NCB, but they've some sense and taken the payment. Just in process of scanning the required now.
Really please with the premium, equivalent cover would have been £80 more. Website easy to access to, no password required!

First I've heard of a personal insurer asking for copies of licences (I had to do it for my trade policy)
I've had to do it for broker quotes previously, but never a direct insurer.. presumably the larger companies have some sort of access to check you have a driving licence, or are happy to take the premiums anyway?Rick101 said:
