First Car suggestions

What type of cars can anyone kindly recommend for a first car? One that I can do small modifications to. Alloys Exhaust etc.. And one that I can insure for relatively cheap. I have been looking at Seat Ibiza 1.2 Litre's

Assuming you're under 21 any mods may well bump up your insurance premium by quite a large margin.

Something that is cheap on insurance... Mods will destroy insurance also. But the fiesta works for me. Any model made after 1995 drives well and the controls are good. They're reliable and cheap to fix when they're not. Plus the handle well and are pretty chuckable.

You have to declare them on most policies, even if you 'just' change the wheels.

Just buy cheap, insure cheap, run it for a year, and then you will be surprised how, after having a full years NCB will help with the renewal.

Leave your st shopping trolley the way the manufacturer made it. 18 months from now, you can either have an Imprezza/Focus ST/big Jag or you can spunk all your money on Halfords tat and insurance premiums and spend the next 10 years tooling about in 15 year old 1200cc hatchbacks with 85bhp and pathetic bodykits.

Seriously, no one thinks you're cool. Girls panties don't become moist at the thought of a 17 year old making a load of pointless noise from his wheezy old Corsa with a dreadful 75" backbox. No petrolheads will see your massive rear wing and assume you have a firebreathing monster, we'll all just laugh at your daft attempts to fool morons into thinking that you might just be Lewis Hamilton's more talented younger brother.

Definitely not. You have to tell your insurer of all modifications that change the car from standard irrespective of how small they are or when they're done.

The only mod that you should be doing is putting in a modern stereo if required. Seriously, your wallet and dignity will thank you in a couple of years time. This speaking as a 23 year old driving a Saxo (soon to be something a lot more exciting) and paying 300 quid a year fully comp
