Irritating motoring related phrases...

These can be phrases used by motoring journalists, TV presenters and dare I say it - forum contributors, that for no discernible reason annoy the hell out of you. They may be perfectly justified or legitimate but grind your gears even greater than seeing the words 'buffering' when streaming adult-orientated entertainment.

Mine is - for no reason in the world, 'a dab of oppo.' grrrrrrr!

This makes sense to me, I have always taken it to mean acceleration figures when staying in one gear, e.g, time for 50-70 while staying in third, as opposed to e.g. time for 0-60 which would encompass at least one, or more usually two gearchanges.

I just pulled the trigger on a packet of McCoy's ridge cut to go with my lunchtime sarnie.

Had a look at the ordinary Tayto, but I thought an extra 20p will see me in a McCoys, with the ridges and the fancier packaging. That impressed my colleagues. My boss has no fried potato lunctime snack whatsoever - loser.

Also, 'drop a cog' makes you sound like the racing driver that you are not. Unless you are of course.
