They're moderately swift as standard with a fair amount of potential for tuning. The standard chassis setup leaves a lot to be desired, though.
I suspect you'd need over 300bhp to get 180mph out of one which is undoubtedly possible with that engine, but not very likely in that case.

180+ mph??
I know that the Turbo versions can be would up and that these really can be made into very fast little cars.. But 180mph? Even it it could, not sure I'd want to be near it when it was!
But seeing as there is no mentions of the mods done/not done and that it has a £999 BIN, I'd say the owner was a wally.

Well at least my err... friends one did. Was around 280bhp.
That looks a really tired example with boy racer alloys which sadly add nothing to the appearance.
Its also filthy - I wonder if he is doing his best not to sell it and can justify it to his other half saying oil this is all it was going to get its worth more to me let's keep it.

If you believe the owners the engines are pretty much bullet proof - they used the same engine in the the Celica GT4 so have some rally pedigree and will handle quite a lot of power on standard internals - but done cheaply I imagine they'll die just like any other turbo car that has it's boost wound all the way up without a thought towards anything else. I am sure it is fast though with the turbo, not sure how long the engine might last if super tuned.
