Pay as you go - credit card mostly but some tolls are manned

You can buy/replace them over the counter at the péage offices (not the payment booths, I mean the office usually seen off to the left after the péage), but they'll insist on a French bank account to link to. Which seems incredible in 2014, but that's France for you Sanef is the only toll company (to my knowledge) that lets you link to a UK account, and I'm not sure how easy it would be to set that up from a Sanef office within France.

Do the transponders work on the different companies' roads? So can a SANEF transponder be used on all the Peage or do you need to be aware of which company runs the autoroute you're on?

I have a SANEF one and it works all over France, also can be used to pay for some carparks in France (Paris in particular). I think it also worked on some roads in Northern Italy but I could be mis-remembering.

I used to prefer the old days. Drive as fast as you like on their roads then pull up to the toll and try to pay with sterling in your English reg'd car. Once a big enough queue built up they'd just wave you through. . I suppose they'd confiscate the fker now and throw you in the slammer.

fked if I'd pay them to drive in their poxy country any more, I've given them enough fking tax as it is the robbing swine (I used to live there).
