Where to buy a NEW gearbox and diff

I'm pricing "something" up...

Getting a brand new engine is easy, in this case a 2.0 zetec, with a modified sump to allow a longitudinal gearbox to attach. (eg - http://www.striker-cars.co.uk/172-2/)

This is set up to mount to a Ford T9 gearbox. great no problem, However...
For what I'm planning the box NEEDS to be 100% NEW, not a recon - all i can find is recons, presumably this box isnt made any more?

Next on to the diff, where can i buy a NEW diff?!

1. Find 'maker' of item required
2. Goto spares dept of local distributer of said item.

Or try Burton Engineering if it's a FoMoCo part.

Is this for a kit etc which you want to register as a new car, and so need new components?

I thought there was something about being allowed to recon a component to "as new" condition and still be ok, but I can't recall any details.

Also, if it is this situation, could someone tell a recon box from a new one, if your paperwork supported it being the latter?

no, for what im working on, it has to be NEW, and good availability etc.

Caterham use new boxes and diffs, and have a choice of 5/6 speeds and sequential...

TBH unless you can find new old stock you won't get a standard new gearbox as people will rebuild old ones rather than buy new. So this leaves you with racing companies but then they will probably all be sequential and expensive.

You should investigate the difference between "reconditioned" and "remanufactured". The difference between the two is often misunderstood. If you can find a "remanufactured" component it is in effect NEW. Essentially it means the casing may have been re-used but all the wearing parts inside it have been replaced. Not just the "worn" parts.
