Car mats

Just bought a used car and it came without mats. Are the model specific ones on eBay for about £25 any good?

Anyone got any experience of them before I take the plunge?

If you expect them to be anything like the OEM manufactured mats then you will be pretty disappointed. I've bought lots of mats for the cars I've owned over the years and even the advertised 'premium' quality mats on ebay aren't much good to be honest. Depending on the car, i'd keep an eye out for some new OEM mats on ebay as they do come up quite a lot.

Why not just use the nice carpets which is what they are there for and then put mats in when you sell it if you feel the need to.
Never understood the need to keep the carpets looking nice for the next person

I got some really nice mats from TowEquipe, however TowEquipe seem to have ceased trading. That being said, it seems they are still trading via their eBay store

Assuming it's the same stuff they are selling, their mats are pretty decent

Its simple really. Tramping in and out of your car month in month out will quickly deteriorate the carpet which ends up looking tired, dirty and worn.

Stick a set of £25 mats over them and you can replace them every couple of years.

If your car has retaining lugs for the mats, make sure the fitted ones you get have them.

Of interest, my golf didnt come with a set of mats but the dealer stuck a set of fitted lugged mats in for free. Certainly werent OEM but 21,000 miles later they are still holding their shape and doing the job perfectly.

I bought some cheapies from ebay when I got my car and two years and twenty thousand miles later they are still looking ok.

I got some very good quality ones ( very thick and properly made to measure ) from Halfords, they were around £45 so not too cheap.

I like to stick a set of OEM's in then a heavy duty one on top for the drivers side. Sad, but work boots go through mats and carpet in no time.

I have OEM carpet mats and have rubber mats over them. The rubber mats make it easy to lift out and shake all the dirt/water/slush away. One added bonus is the car smells fresher for longer.

Always put brand new mats from the manufacturer in every used car I buy..

Fit perfect, and perfect colour match for the interior carpets. Cheapies don't come close.

I have used CarMats4u twice now, getting the most expensive carpet mats. Despite the awful name, they fitted perfectly and the quality was great as was the service. No affiliation.

For the expensive ones they send you a paper template and sample beforehand so you can check the colour and fit before confirming.
