Mazda cx7 turbo?

Father has one and he liked it up until needed gearbox re-build costing 2k. After much arguing mazda agreed to foot bill, but has started to make same whining noise again which was precursor to rebuild last time. There have been other issues as well with immobiliser, and reliability hasn't lived up to mazda's reputation. It could just be he's been unlucky, and he does enjoy driving the car...and to be honest, now he's looking to replace it, there isn't anything for the same price that offers same performance and spec.

The 2.3 engine ?

Start here up and listen for a rattle (vvt chain) from the left side of the engine as you look down .Leave the car to idle for a good 10 mins ,if there is still white smoke the turbo is on the way out .Although this could take plenty of time
