This one I saw today took me back to the summer of 1981.
Maybe it's a combination of the great weather, age, mood or whatever, but when I saw this car today I was 10 again, walking into the sunny showroom at Jessups on Wharf Road in Stamford, Lincolnshire.
The smell of new cars, tyres, polish.
The object of my flashback? A perfect pepper-pot wheeled two tone grey Ford Capri Injection. No doubt it sat 30 odd years ago in a showroom somewhere with a Fiesta Superspirt and a brown and gold Granada Chasseur as the new MK III "Simple is efficient" Ford Escort was launched.
Might head up to the attic later to find a July '81 Ford brochure in thousands (no joke) stored there.
Seeing a mk5 Fiesta Zetec S in standard trim takes me right back. I bought one as my first car, and it was great. Most you see these days are as rotten as f
k and dreadfully modified.
I bought it on a Friday night, from a car dealer in Northumberland. I had decided a Fiesta Zetec S was the car I wanted, and had a look on Autotrader to see what was for sale. Back then, there were a lot more around! This was the closest one to me that looked to be in good shape, so I ended up test driving it on a Saturday afternoon and then going back the next Friday to buy it.
The drive home was an experience I'll never forget! It was a hot afternoon, and I'd driven my mates Suzuki Swift Sport up there. Jumping in the car on the way back with my mate in the passenger seat and my girlfriend driving the Swift. We had a great drive most of the way home, taking in some fantastic B roads and bombing past Warkworth Castle. Then it cut out and died on a dual carriageway (turned out the alternator was done for). We wasted about 30 mins there, fiddling with it before bump starting it!
Fantastic cars with a great engine and superb handling. Nearly as good a hot hatch, I would say, as the 106 Rallye I had...but not quite!

Mine would be a Renault 25.
Dad used to own one. A dark blue GTX (I think). Fantastic car. Takes me back to trips up to Suffolk to visit my aunt and uncle. Only an hour and a half or so, yet it was a journey of epic proportions when I was a youngster.

My grandfather's car in Cyprus and our mode of transport every holiday when we visited (almost every summer). Interiors full of sand after visiting the beach, overheating in the mountains, burning your legs when you got in on the hot vinyl seats. Good times.
Can't remember the last time I saw one in the UK tbh.
