Receiving tax renewal letters a month after selling a car

I sold my car at the end of June and sent the little slip from the V5C off at the same time. The tax for the car runs out next week and so far no sign of the notification of change of ownership from DVLA, plus I've received a tax renewal letter from them. Is it time to write a letter to them explaining I no longer own the car or shall I risk leaving it another week?

Write to them. Include the make, model and reg number, to whom it was sold and when. Also explain that you have returned the V5C, and that you are replying to the VED reminder.

Isn't there something on the receipt slip they send you for the change of owner saying "Don't worry if you receive a tax renewal letter, they're printed well in advance so can cross in the post"?

They say allow 4 weeks but last time I did this the notification came in a few days.

It was one of the many things I argued with the salesman about - he offered to send it off and said we can forget about it. In reality it's pretty important to look out for the notification.

The notification turned up today, typically right after I'd spent time writing and printing out a letter to them. At least there's no need to worry about it now
