Cleaning Oil from Engine bay

Having recently had a bit of an oil leak from the car which is now fixed, the engine is a mess! Covered in oil runs etc.
What's the best way to get this cleaned off? Giving it a wipe is an option, but it's in all the nook and crannies of the engine bay, is there an effective way of giving it a good clean without crawling into the engine bay for ages wiping everything?

I spilled oil on the engine when topping it up recently and it stank when the engine warmed up. I was like you and didn't know what to do and just left it. I took my car in for a service recently and the mechanic mentioned he'd cleaned the spilled oil off with WD40. Seems to have done the job as it doesn't stink of oil anymore. I imagine a rag (tie it to a stick for the harder to reach areas?) with the WD40 would be effective. Or some kind of long reach brush?

Howsabout engine cleaner/degreaser 
You can buy cheapish 5L of the stuff but I do know that the Autoglym one is even more effective than "traditional" stuff, like diesel or kerosene.
Use a cheap 2L plant sprayer type thing to apply and subsequently rinse off, though a hose will work for the latter.
