In the interests of balance, what are the phrases that just bring a smile to your face?

I will nominate:
'Drop a cog' - I like this phrase as I am quite a fan of 'dropping a cog' and 'flooring' it at times.

'Four pot lump' - Just makes me smile, don't know why, but any non car enthusiast just looks blankly back if you use this phrase.

'Raiding the 'parts bin''... I always imagine this as literally happening as in Ferrari engineers going through the bins at the back of Fiat.

'Masses of lift-off oversteer' (has to be said in as poor a Tiff Needell impersonation as you can manage).

Right that's it.

'pull the trigger'; relating to buying a car. It sounds cool, like you're going to shoot the fk out of something with your 1911. wink

As an opposite to 'borked' I like the term 'shagged'. The funniest use of the term was that Drive video with Chris Harris in the 'shagged' Fiat Panda that looked like it had been driven over a large boulder.

The video for your viewing pleasure

One that's always made me chuckle is referring to budget tyres as "chinese ditchfinders" hehe

I once corrected a fairly benign rear end slide in my mondeo as I existed a wet roundabout by staying on the throttle and pointing the front wheels where I wanted the car to go and since then I feel a real affinity with the term "drift king".

Any relation to "Wayne King"?

Describing a high-maintenance car as a 'cash bonfire' usually brings a smile to my face. Also, 'driving like your teeth are on fire'.

Instead of "Drive it like you stole it", the Irish version is "Drive it like you're late for Mass." Lovely turn of phrase smile

Thrompy

something like a merc V8, or a ducati V-twin, preferebly such engines on more open-configuation exhaust pipes, are thrompy.

For clarity, a nissan micra is not thrompy, nor is a honda CG125.
