Anyone ever imported a car from Australia into the UK?

Hi… Anyone ever imported a car from Australia to the UK?
I can find lots of information on doing it the other way round – but nothing incoming to the UK?
Would it be the same process as importing from, say, Japan?

I’m guessing associated costs (not including the purchase of the car) would be:

Shipping
Import duty – VAT ??
MOT
TAX
SVA ??

Unsure how emissions compliancy comes into play? The car would likely be a 1999-2001 but with a 5.0litre or 5.7 litre V8

It's doable, though by the looks of it quite a lot of work is needed to get round it's natural urges to remain Antipodean. Just ask this chap:



(they make Camaros in Australia, right!?)


On a more helpful note, I would try asking on a VXR forum or two - there are quite a few V8 Maloos in the country which must be private imports.

Same as anywhere else that's non-EU. IVA only require for <10yo cars, otherwise just MOT. There'll certainly be VAT to pay.

If it's pre-01, then it's only taxed on engine size - <1550cc, 1550cc+.
If it's post-01, and doesn't have an official EU CO2 figure, then it goes with the pre-01 non-CO2 tax bands.

Walkinshaw have experience of this. Mostly new HSV and Holden.

The Monaro section of PH might provide names of a few other firms and/or individuals that have done this.
