Cows on the M3 at J1

Where the M3 starts/ends at junction 1, for as long as I can remember, there have been some tiny model cows on the roof of a building overlooking the motorway.
A sad day yesterday - they are now all gone
They remind me of sitting in the back of my dad's Morris trying to spot them as we went to auntie's house. But now they have all disappeared.
Does anyone have any insider info? Are they just on holiday for a refurb?
