Hi,

I'm sorry that this is my first post on here but having looked at some other threads, you seem to be a helpful lot so I'm hoping someone can help me. I've googled this a fair bit but don't seem to have a clear answer so if anyone knows, that'd be great. The question is:

If an insurance policy that contains two drivers is voided, when the named driver on that policy goes to apply for new insurance in their own name, do they have to state that they have had a policy voided or cancelled? Reading the question they ask and taking it literally "Have you ever had an insurance policy voided or cancelled", I would think the answer could be no if it wasn't this person's policy who had been voided, they were just named on a policy that has been voided. I hope that makes sense. If it does, does anyone know the answer!?

Thanks...

Depends on the reason it was voided as the named driver could have caused the policy to be void.

Well the situation is (as per a similar thread on here) that the car was registered to the named driver when the agreement had said that it was registered to the main driver.

And just to add, the named driver had an accident in the car and that's when this came to light.

That will have invalidated the entire policy, I'd imagine.

Yeah, I think you're right. But, when applying for a new policy in the named drivers name the question states "Have you ever had a policy cancelled/voided etc..." not "have you been insured on a policy that has been cancelled/voided etc...". What do you reckon?

Having googled things, it seems that technically could be how it's viewed though it certainly wasn't the intention. The insurers have never mentioned 'fronting'.

Oh I see what you mean. I'd imagine that the named driver could honestly answer that as "no", since the policy wasn't theirs. It would be a bit harsh if you could be penalised for things done on a policy on which you are a named driver, given that I don't think you need someone's permission to name them as a driver on a policy.

Sounds like it. Then the named driver crashed and the policy was void.

As to the question I'm not sure. I would talk it through with whichever insurance company the named driver of the void policy is intending to take insurance out with. That way, they'll know the answer as far as that company is concerned. And therefore actually be covered this time...

Fair enough. Suppose it'd need to be checked with the new insurer. The way I see it is... let's say you were named on a company insurance policy along with lots of other drivers, and for whatever reason that policy was voided, surely you wouldn't get stung for it?

Anyway, thanks all for the advice. Hopefully I can find the time to join the community properly once things are resolved. smile
