I got a letter from my insurance company (large supermarket) this morning for my old station car Mk 4 Golf Tdi.

Last year it was £296. This year they want £459 eek

In 25 years of driving I have never experienced a hike like this before, considering I had yet another year of crash and conviction free motoring (touch wood).

Has anyone else had a recent hike like this in similar circumstances?

What is your renewal after shopping around?

The renewal figure you get quoted is never what you actually pay.

Just to counter this, mine has gone from £491 to £289.

Happens every year for me, just visit the Meerkats or Gocompare, youll probably find it for less than last year and sometimes with your own company which can lead to some interesting phone conversations with their sales people. I flatly refuse to renew if their writtem quote is hundreds different to an online quote for the same company, tossers.

Happens to me every year with Admiral but I cant find anywhere cheaper so stuck with them purely from a cost perspective.

This years renewal for a 2104 A3 2.0D S-Line Sportback and a 2014 M135i was £1350 for myself and other half.

We eventually got a new quote on Admirals on site for £605 in the end, like for like. Less than half the price.

Every year we seem to go through the same thing......

How old is the car?

Mine jumped up quite a bit one year as the car went to being over 10 years old.

Shop around using the online comparison sites - simple, quick and likely to provide you with a cheaper premium than your current insurer has quoted.

No. It was what I saw when I opened the renewal letter this morning. Haven't started shopping around yet.

For that much I hope the multi-car policy covered your Delorean too hehe

2002. I guess that could be a factor then. But over £160 more...?

Mine dropped this year, quite a bit. Talked to the Meerkats & got a quote with the same co £10 lower so went with that. I could get even lower but with poorer cover, bigger excess etc.

I use A-Plan insurance in bournemouth (Broker) who do a whole of market search for me each year.

This year it's with AXA.

Never trust a renewal. Always use a compassion site every year.

One company I always felt were really good at renewal were Elephant but unfortunately they weren't able to compete with Churchill on the scoob last year. £270 a year was what I paid last year with the dog, yet the renewal papers came through at £790 this year...a quick check on the comparison site brings back the same £270 with the dog and an hour on the phone (mainly queing) saw them match the £270. Mental. Fair play to the guy on the phone though, he added a few bits like free rental+ or whatever it is and didn't do anything to hide the fact the spike was ridiculous. Decent handler, ste company ethics.

This really pee's me off. Every year it's the same old routine, absolutely no reward for loyalty. I just had me renewal through from the AA and it had gone up by £300 (£180 - £500). I compared the meerkats and got it for £172. I was so annoyed with the AA as they tried everything to get me to renew - brought their price down to £200 and offered allsorts. So I cancelled with them and my roadside recovery (as that had gone up from £6 a month to £16. When I whinged and queried it, it went down, magically, to £2.28 p.m.!) got cancelled as well.

I switch through comparison sites every year, this year my 2010 Lancer Ralliart is £220 a year for both me and the wife, cheap as chips.

Never, ever renew your insurance! They always take the pee in the hope you'll blindly sign-up for another year.

Visit the usual comparison sites and you'll get it far cheaper. Don't do what my work colleague does and just renew with the AA every year. I think his latest renewal price was approx. £350... on a 12 year old boggo Micra eek

Interesting.

Changed my 56 plate Volvo last year for an ex demo 6 month old Merc E & my insurer, Aviva, told me I would lose my 'older car discount'.

At renewal earlier this year I paid about £140 more with Aviva as they were cheapest.

Go compare OP. Simples!!!

Aye, they're much more sympathetic.
