30-70 mph times
Discussion
The figure for a 996 turbo is 3.4 secs. A 360 modena takes 4.3 secs. (Source "Car" magazine).
I have to agree 0 to 60 times are pointless.
Far more interesting is 50 to 105 time in 3rd gear. This being the most important figure as it provides a way of working out which vehicles are the most safe when overtaking numptys. In the 996 turbo (450 bhp version) with unintiated passengers, it usually illicits comments about religion and sex!! (

Another interesting figure is 150 to 195 in sixth. As they used to say at Rolls Royce when questioned about performance, "Sufficient".....

Daz, 50-105, as a matter of interest, how long does it take?
I don't have an exact figure. The standard 996 turbo does the following:
0 to 60 4.2 seconds
0 to 100 9.2 seconds
30 to 70 3.4 seconds
ie once going it goes like the clappers!!
When I've done the 50 to 105 in third I've had drivers of various perforance cars confirm it's faster than theirs. (355, 360 and 550 Ferrari drivers) You just stamp the accellerator and hang on for a few seconds 6ish? because there's no changing gears it seems effortless.

6ish eh, will have to see what the cerb is capable of, all in the interests of science you understand!
The above is a guess. I'll get hold of a stop watch and a consenting passenger then revert back. I've used 6ish having looked at the the confirmed performance figures for the standard turbo previously quoted. The X50 450bhp feels quicker.
When do you change upto fourth in the TVR?

PS All tests of this nature will be carried out off of the public highway, both in the interest of current PC road safety propoganda and to allow blind numptys to continue using motorways undisturbed.
I'm quite chuffed at reading those times. I have an AP22 accelerometer which can tell me stuff like that.
According to my last run, in my Supra I did 30-70mph in 3.83 seconds
However, I assume all the figures don't mean starting at a steady 30mph instead of accelerating through it. Otherwise, effects like engine response and turbo-lag would come into play.
James.

The 30 to 70 quoted was from a constant 30.
The 50 to 105 time will also be from a constant 50 in third. ie to realistically assess the overtaking numpty coeifficient of the vehicle!!!
Your Supra sounds a bit of a goer.

Have you been Ultima'd yet.
0-60 (depends on gearbox and engine) about 3.3 secs and 0-100 in around 7 secs. Beyond that it gets better!!
Figures look fantastic. Unfortunately I've never seen one on the road let alone been in one.
If I were to see one on the road and I was in the Porka I'm afraid I'd just let it go. I only do the rapid accelleration runs on empty roads, I think racing and roads don't mix.
Have you done any track days in the Ultima? Nurburg Ring?

It's probably the best memory I have of my Griff 500. (some might say the only good memory..!)

In Manchester, just outside Irlam, there's a stretch of carriageway called the mile end road. For good reason, it's a road that a mile long and is *dead* straight.
Taking my dad out for the first time in my shiny new Griff, I'd been pottering around to let the engine warm, but by now the juices were flowing. I turned into the road and let rip. Just enough to break the rear wheels free before biting and propelling us down towards Irlam at 'interesting' pace.
Having been a bit of a car nut in his heyday, my usually reserved and chilled dad shouted over the engine "fcuking hell, I had no idea cars could do that!".
A few confirmation blats up and down various motorway slip roads and I returned home having slapped a permanent hazy grin on his face - much to the amusement of my mum.
Probably inconsequential to most owners, but it was a golden moment for me
