Hi all
Been hovering around this very useful forum and now my first post!

Bought a Audi a3 2012 on pcp last year with 6.5 k deposit and paying 292 per month for the past 13 months.
Curiosity got the best of me I went to BMW they valued it at 11.5 k , remaining finance is something like 6.5k

They said they are able to take my car of me and use he equity as deposit for a new BMW 318d paying no extra deposit and £330 ish a month on a 4 year pcp deal. (There's some offer now where they put like 2.5k deposit down too, low April)

Is this a good deal, am I missing something totally obvious? I see it that there is a big chunk of positive equity now and might as well use it to upgrade to a better car??

Thanks for your help in advance!

You seem to change your mind a bit... you sure a 4 year deal is right for you? Where can you exit? I thought it was once 50% of the way through the agreement (so I guess the on on the audi was 24 months?)

The only thing you need to be aware of is that you probably won't be able to do the exact same thing in a year. A 318d is a more expensive car and as such will probably depreciate more. If it's brand new you'll obviously lose a huge chunk straight away, whereas with your Audi, because you bought second hand, someone had already taken a pill. The equity you're "transferring" won't translate to being the right side of the 3-series. You're probably in it for at least 2 years, if not more before you be in a position that financially makes sense to change it

Yes you're missing the

6500 + 3796 that you've already paid, with 6500 remaining finance that's a total cost of £16796 for the Audi. Minus the £11500 BMW are giving back, the Audi has cost you £5296 for a years motoring.

The BMW is then costing the equity (£5000) + a four year pcp deal costing £15840.

So for 5yrs of driving an A3 followed by a 118d you will have paid £26136 in depreciation alone.

Its a no brainer, go for it thumbup

I've often wondered why when advertising cars they don't use exciting tag lines such as: 'Pay over £25.000 to be a prisoner to a bottom end diesel utility vehicle for 5 years.'

Quite.

Most people wouldn't want to be seen dead in a 318d

Wasted effort on your part, the BMW dealer will have already presented this analysis to the OP.

Give them chance. They've only just started telling people in adverts they won't actually own the car.

Agreed i don't understand how people don't have mental brake downs and consider suicide when forced to drive around in a new 318d i bet all the starving people in africa must be thinking well dam our life isn't that bad after all.
