Looking for anyone with past experience or inside knowledge on this one. I know what they can be like when it comes to loading peoples policies upon renewal for things which aren't claims or convictions (Speed awareness course being one of them). If I claim for a new windscreen under my cover included within my policy, does this have any bearing on my renewal/ how to they view it in general? I suspect it will go up but I'd like to try and get a feel by how much. Do you have to declare this as it is a claim of sorts and it is my current insurance policy so if asked if I've had any accidents or losses I don't know where I would stand?

Sounds sad and miserable I know but I need to understand the implications of claiming and then decide if it's worth just buying one from a breakers yard and getting someone to fit it (Car is an old shed)

Thanks in advance

Put a fake date of birth, address and e-mail into an Admiral quote and play away until your heart's content.

There wasn't any noticeable difference after my windscreen replacement claim. I'm sure I wouldn't have got it for 'free' but they were still the cheapest provider come renewal time.

This was a couple of years ago though.

I had a windscreen done whilst insured by admiral - I renewed with them and it wasn't detailed in my new documents.

Thanks for everyone's input. I ran some quotes online and it made a big difference on some (£172 on one insurer) but admiral group wasn't massively different.

I'll give them a call and get it sorted. Not the best way to start the week!

I thought that using the windscreen cover didn't affect your ncb - you just pay the excess?

If that's not the case, then why bother with it? Surely you might as well just claim on your normal fully comp?

It doesn't effect your ncb but the same as with ncb protection people are under a misconception that it won't effect your premium. If your discount stays the same but the premium goes up you can still pay more.

I recently insured my car with Admiral. They noted my windscreen claim but stated it had no effect on the cost of the insurance

I made a screen claim on a car insured with them and it appeared to make no difference on renewal.

I've asked about the windscreen cover thing years ago and said it made no difference to the quotes, so I have never ever mentioned them.

I do remember back in 1997 on my old MR2 - I had the most appalling run of luck - 3 windscreens in 5 days yikes (I remember seeing one of them coming - basically a half brick off a trucks wheels - didn't half make a mess).
