Have we had the best in motoring ?

I drove to Bridlington yesterday ( a Sunday ) fool that I am . It was a nice day and I have a cracking car that has cost me a bloody fortune because I love motoring. But after returning yesterday to West Yorkshire I just though that was a ste day and a waste of my time .

Firstly the drive to the motorway, crap roads full of potholes and sunk drains , then once on the M62 average speed cameras for miles that change to more average speed cameras for road works ( which is a mystery as no bleeding road works going on ).

Then once off the motorway miles of queuing traffic at every mini roundabout, any straight bits a car doing 35 with four cars behind as overtaking these days is illegal . Coming back you have the farmers with hay trailers on with a snake of traffic as far as the eye can see.

We got home exhausted and worn out, just in time to send £500 for my ticket to be on the road.


ps: it must have been the three weeks on French roads that has got me going.

I live in Yorkshire too- I got up early and drove briskly on deserted roads in convoy with my friend's Elise to Croft for a cracking day's racing. The drive home was even better. Bridlington- why ? Bridlington in August ...I mean, what the hell did you expect ?

Depends where you live. I live in the middle of nowhere, and roads are lovely. Low congestion, good twisties and the majority of it is NSL. Some good fun to be had. However anywhere in an urban setting driving is a bit of a pain. I'm guessing Harris lives in Wales for the roads and the quiet. And still has okay access to London.

Underinvestment in the road network... not a problem in other areas

I know, bloody fool that I am. We have bought a cottage in the wolds ( to live in, not a holiday jobby ) and we wanted to have a look before the completion date which never seems to materialise ( solicitors an other rant ).

So at least we can get to the East coast without travelling on the M62 and the mother of all st roads the A 64.

Spot on, the only investment for years has been a round about with traffic lights on the main route to the Yorkshire East Coast A64 , which has resulted in a huge bottle neck
