Is it just me, but do spiders really love wing mirrors, they are always covered in webs and today I caught one dragging a wasp behind the mirror, flicked it off and the little beggar legged it behind the mirror.

You flicked off the wasp? Now what will the spidy eat? Heated door mirrors are great though, gives them a free sauna.

I love wing mirror spiders. Never had a car that didn't come with at least one fitted - assume this was a EU safety directive? Nothing better than watching one give you a cheeky wave and a wink whenever you change lanes. biggrin

Annoys me that you can't filter the PH classifieds to show only cars with arachnids attached.

I had the same one for about a month last winter. Every morning he would crawl in behind the mirror as I set off, bless him.

Incredible how strong the webs are too...no matter how fast you go, they don't get blown away.

Once walked away from buying a car because it had a spider in it. True(ish) story.

Think of the volume of air that goes through the web and the increased chance of a catch too.

Smart spider.

Or it can just wait inside the mirror housing until you've parked again, then pick and choose from whatever you've kindly swatted with the front of the car. biggrin

Mine's called Bob - he's a nice enough fellow and my car does a very good job of feeding him squashed insects on the commute! smile

I thought Wasps ate Spiders, not the other way round.

You probably just saved your wing mirror spiders life!

Was it frightening away all the other spiders?

An alpha spider, if you will?

Auto folding mirrors. Simply activate while travelling at motorway cruising speeds and anything hidden behind the mirror is ejected at high velocity.

You stop at the traffic lights and they sneak out to check and tighten up their web... then you try to take off at speed and watch them clinging on for dear life!

Hate the dirty bds, it seems more and more common and requiring some sort of chemical weapon.
(no offence to spider fetishists, especially as it does seem strangely common).

My car mirrors turn into a veritable spider farm! Drives me nuts. We have a lot of trees around and I think they must rappel down at first sight of my car approaching!!

Spiders are a key part of nature's ecosystem.

They manufacture one of the strongest materials known to man.

Cool to see them building a home and trap and munching dinner.
