The CV boot of my car has split, expelling what seems to be the entire contents of the joints molly grease over the inside of the wheel/arches/basically everywhere it shouldn't be. rolleyes

What I want to determine is that given that there's unlikely to be much lubricant left, is the joint likely to survive the ~200 miles the vehicle needs to cover until the weekend which will be the fist opportunity I get to install a replacement boot?

Is it making much noise/vibration?

I'm not sure I'd risk a 200 mile drive tbh....

Edit: Just re-read and realised it's not a single 200 mile drive. If it was just local driving I might risk it and keen an ear out for imminent failure.

No point worrying about it, just get it done as soon as you can.

When did it split? When I realised mine had gone, in hindsight I must have done at least 5k with it split before I replaced it.

Not sure exactly, but I'd say no more than 2 weeks.

One of mine was pissing all over the place before I noticed. It should be fine but the sooner the better.

Looking at how small the split is, you will be surprised by how much grease is actually still in there, it'll be fine.

You could always clean the split (so you don't push contaminated grease back in) squeeze some new grease in there - clean the split surface to remove all traces of grease then a bit of duct tape/superglue to seal it as a temporary fix.

That's what I'd do to make sure I didn't damage the CV joint and end up needing to replace the drive shaft!!

But then I hate replacing drive shafts
