£70+VAT for wheel refurb. Y/N?

Scuffed two 18" alloys and been quoted online £70+vat per wheel to refurb them.

Is this a too-good-to-be-true price or about right? Never looked into it before.

Company is Wicked Wheels if anyone's used them.

That's about right. Most places are around 40-50quid a wheel including VAT.

This is a mobile place, so can understand the extra cost. Mate told me he paid £150 a corner for his TT so not sure if he got ripped off or this place were cowboys.

There's wheel refurb's and wheel refurb's .

You can get a tyre off wheel chemically stripped refurbed inside and out or a break tyre bead on wheel face rub down refinish only the wheel face refurb .

It's a slight scuff on two wheels from rubbing against a carpark curb (I could've cried when it happened) - Do you reckon a face-rub only would be sufficient? In which case does the quoted price seem high?

If you can get the wheels (or even leave your car and use the courtesy car) to them 'Platinum Alloy Wheel Solutions' in Swindon are worth a look at. See there website for the full process the wheels go through with them.

For my 17"s I just paid £216 including vat for a full set, tyres off, sandblast, then refit tyres, from a professional outfit. Not a mobile.

It costs more if you have split rims of course.

I've no idea what a split rim is - I've got a Merc 250CDI with the AMG sport pack if that helps?

£70 plus vat for refurb of an 18" wheel sounds about right if you take it to a company. I use The Wheel Specialist in Manchester. They're a national franchise and their work has been top class. Tyres off, shot blasted, repaired and powder coated to whatever colour you want. Perfect finish every time I've used them.

It sounds a bit steep if you're using a mobile company. Surely the finish that could be obtained from a mobile unit won't be as good as a full strip down. Also, it'll be more likely there will be less work involved as they won't be taking the tyre off the wheel.

Personally I do not have a problem with having just the face done as my wheels have spotlessly clean backs any way and when I find the money for a wheel refurb it would mainly be to change the colour .

The quoted price seems a tad expensive for a repaint type refurb but perfectly reasonable for a diamond cut refurb which I believe a C250 AMG has .

£140 for both wheels as opposed to how much for new wheels ?

Bit of wet and dry and a £5 can of paint works. Well for a banger it does

The main reason for me doing this is the car is on a PCP and £170 here is a load cheaper than what Mercedes will probably charge when it goes back.

I assume if I get them done that they'll look "good as new" again?

over the past 20 years, I've only used these guys: http://www.pristinealloywheels.co.uk/ They chemically dip and machine the wheels if necessary and the finish is better than new.

I'm in Bournemouth (although work in Southampton) so these would all be local enough. Mind me asking what you paid at Silver Wheels/

I paid c£80 inclusive for 17" split rims, wheels off, a few years ago. I have only used mobile people for one off blemishes. The people I used , My Alloys in Basingstoke, for my BMW showed me around their premises and explained exactly what would be done. Took a couple of days. Good result.

Think your self lucky they're not diamond cut or you would be looking at three times that price!!

I can see the latest trend for diamond cut alloys catching out a lot of people in the next few years!

They already are! I've noticed quite a few cars with alloys that would have been originally diamond cut just getting refurbished in normal silver. Doesn't look as bad as it sounds.
