'Q' uestion

Reading the description and given the age, model and history how could this have ended up on a 'Q' plate and how could it be put back on an 02 ?

That's right. Once a Q, that's it. The DVLA are very explicit about it. That's the reason many people go for an age-related plate because they can then swap to a private plate later.

As it's apparently based on a MK3 MR2 of 2002 vintage I fail to see how it ended up on a 'Q' in the first place.

Probably because whoever registered it couldn't prove that enough of the MR2 parts came from the same car.
