Fun car for £2k ish

Having bought a truck and sold my trailer I no longer need my v6 Audi a4 to tow with so am thinking about selling it and buying something a bit more fun to use everyday

Ideally need 4 seats, sensible mpg and reasonably reliable looking to spend around £2 - 2.5k but could
Spend a little more or less.

Looked at

Clio 172/182 - seam good value but already had one
Civic type R - might be looking at some doggy cars at this value
306 rallye - seams a good choice if I can find a good one
Mini Cooper S - seam to be a lot of these about at sensible money
Looked a e30 or old e36 but not sure they'll be as much fun as the hatches or as economical.

Sure there's other options I've missed, anyone have an opinion on what I should go for

There's quite a few at that price, how about a Toyota Celica T Sport or Fiat Coupe Turbo? Need more specific criteria really.

I've had plenty of 306 gti6/Rallye's. They are brilliant.

But for a change, I'd say BMW 325ti would be my choice.

Are these 4 useable seats that are needed as adults would struggle in most of those on anything other than a quick 10min run (e30/e36 excluded)

A 325ti will easily be as economical as the R53 MCS ( I've had both )

( I presume you mean that sort of Cooper S for 2.5k at least )

rear seats would only be needed occasionally for kids so coupe's maybe worth a look.

a bit more hunting and a 3.0 alfa GTV could be worth stretching the budget for? although possibly not the most reliable I do like the looks, interior and I'm told every petrol head should own an alfa at some time

Mk 2 16v Golf GTI ? Might be difficult to get a pristine version within your budget, but can't see you losing much (if any) moment when the time comes sell ?

Was also going to mention a Peugeot 205 GTI, but then I saw your criteria for reliability ....... Lol.
