Smart Roadsters - buying advice

Could you help me out please with what to look out for?

I know gear changes and rain leaks are known issues, anything else?

IIRC they have a healthy appetite for AC pipes.

Cracked turbo manifolds, turbo housing and manifold as one, is quite common. I remember something about misfires and burning out exhaust valves, but that could have been ForTwo.

I had one for five years and it had none of the "common" problems. And the you get used to the gear change, but get the flappy paddles if you can.

Bought my coupe in 2005, sold it in 2010 and still miss it.

A/C pipes did crack, but instead of replacing them the were bodged / modified by inserting a length of flexible pipe which removed the stress on the joints. Were OK after that.

It did leak a bit, but it was only terrible the time I didn't put the roof bars back properly. Unfortunately took me some weeks to work that one out.

SAM unit got wet, failed and had to be replaced.

I had to replace the clutch at 33k. The dealer said that was about normal at the time, and that bigger wheels = shorter clutch life.

Rear tyres lasted me about 20k per set, fronts were 40k. Handling can be somewhat characterful in the wet with worn rear tyres - the only car I have "reversed" off a roundabout
