What should I look out for + any other recommendations?

I've put my car up for sale as part ex seems to be silly low :/
When it sells I'll be looking at a Ford transit tourneo, the reason being that I want a van size vehicle that I can insure on car insurance. The 9 seats would also come in handy a few times a year
Anything older than 06 I can insure as a car, I find it strange that the newer ones are van insurance only?
My price range is £5k at an absolute max, ideally £4k max but can stretch a little.
This gives me some nice examples with around 80k on clock onwards.
First question is, is there anything I need to look out for on these? Will hopefully be taking a relative who sells vans for a living but wanted to take a 'check list' with me.
Second question, is there anything else you recommend that fits the criteria?
Van insurance may be a possibility but due to age I'm getting silly quotes, when I enquired it was because "I have no need for one"

Merc Vaneo/Sprinter??? Not too much of a van guy but like driving Mercs when I have to, the Sprinter being a particular favourite with its driving position and controls. I like Transits as well so it may be up your street.
The vaneo in my budget is around 180k miles+. Don't really want to take the risk with that but would like one if I had £40k to spend on a new one 
Sprinters no good, it's van insurance and not cheap quotes either.

Presumably can source a van for you, won't stitch you up with a wrong un, and might give you a favourable p/ex.

He can't p/x as I own a car not a van, he did say he'll have a ask around for me but I've heard nothing yet.

A lot of Torneos are used as PH vehicles, so tend to get abused a bit unfortunately.

He's had loads of great P/X's but quotes even for a 90hp van have been in excess of £2k! A lot of Torneos are used as PH vehicles, so tend to get abused a bit unfortunately.
Everytime I question it, it's down to the need for one. I transport gym equipment for my hobby so a van is great. If I were a builder or something insurance would probably be cheaper
