Carpark damage and false details

My wife's car was shunted in a retail carpark this afternoon while she was parking. She came home and was explaining what had happened, she felt that the guy driving was a bit dodgy. So anyway, she had their details so we could get the damage repaired.
I asked for the reg number, "oh I didn't get that" she says. "But you took the details on your Iphone, why didn't you take a photo of the car and reg?" Okay, lets call the number they gave you, sure enough its a number not in use, "didn't you call them at the scene to confirm the number?" No.
Address given is a Town name, no street address.Estimate for damage is £800 - £1000.
FFS, while I am pi..ed off at the guy giving false details, I am more pi..ed off at my wife.

CCTV is your only hope. Lesson learned!

Thanks, the CCTV doesn't cover the area where she was hit. Lesson learnt indeed.

Was there any visible damage to the other car? May be worth checking surrounding CCTV and see if the car can be picked up.
