Cheap car for 60,000 miles in three years

Looking for a car for the other half, must be an auto due to dodgy foot.

Doing 20,000 miles per year looking for the cheapest to run over the next three years.

Budget anywhere between 2-10k

Looking for overall cost of ownership not just depreciation.

1.2 tsi dsg ibiza is of interest but not sure on real world mpg

1.6tdi golf expensive for what you get but would it hold value?

Any suggestions?

Something Ibiza to a4 sized nothing bigger, have a passat cc company car for long hauls, is mainly used for a 52 mile round trip to work which is all country roads.

My friends mum has a Skoda Fabia 1.4 tsi vRS (same car as an Ibiza Cupra underneath) and she says its a great little car for commuting. She does a 38 mile round trip for work everyday and about 22 miles of it is stop start traffic yet she gets an average of 41mpg, so I imagine a less powerful version will be even better again. Also what about a diesel BMW 1 Series? Sure they come with Auto boxes across the range and a less powerful engine like the 118d will only have £30 tax or £105 at the most

Hyundai i30 for the warranty maybe? Could buy used under 2year old. Or Kia C'eed under 4 years and 40k? Either in a 1.6 diesel auto would be in budget and give warrantied driving for those 3 years.

mk1 toyota yaris, i think they did a 1.3 auto. mega reliable and will be cheap to run.
