Morning all - a quick one, i hope someone might be able to help.

I'm looking for a NEW (in no way re-conditioned) transverse engine and gearbox.

By small i mean something like a 1.6 / 1.8 vtec, but these dont seem to be available new at all.

(note: zetec / Duratec are too big for the application, which is in the front of a classic mini)

Are you trying to get a build together that would allow an up to date plate? I take it Honda can't get a hold of a brand new B18? You can get the K20 in the front but it would need to be a flip front at that point.

Correct yes, 15 plate hopefully.
I talked to honda, they wanted absolutely silly money - lets say they wanted nearly as much as a brand new 2.0L race ready Duratec from Cosworth.

For registration I can use only 1 re-conditioned main component, the down side is with CAR engines the engine and gearbox are always considered separate, unlike bike engines where they are part of the same casting and inseparable.

I've just been on to ford about their 1.6l ecoboost, might fit, waiting for drawings.

How about one of the Toyota ZZ engines? Might be a bit tall for a Mini, though.

The N-series might be worth a look too. It's basically a refreshed K-series which is a very small, light engine. I've no idea if they will sell you a crate one.

Does Ford sell the 1.0T Ecoboost triple as a crate, or was that a once off for the Formula Ford?

How can they tell if an engine is brand new or not? Is it just down to receipts? Engines can be tarted up externally quite easily to look brand new.

Exactly. So what's preventing having an engine built up with a NEW block, and all the other bits used. No one would ever know.

Even a new block can be quite expensive.

I was thinking, once the engine type had been chosen, trying to find a low mileage write off. Buy the engine, swop the bits onto the new block, (might be able to ebay that). You now have a NEW engine maybe quite a bit cheaper than a crate engine. Plus you might also get all the ancillary bits, including electrics.

Is a new block 100% ready to use or do they need any sort of machining to finish them off?

Dont forget peoples, you can get "new" Zetec engines but they stopped production several years ago.
It would require a receipt stating it was new (and it would have to look new, obviously).
