BMW 2 Series hiding?

Semi- amusing short story about one.
Test drove a red one, top spec, at Sytner Harold Wood, rather nice receptionist took me out in it (all salesguys were busy as it was a "VIP" event). Drove it like I stole it along country roads, had back out controllably on a few bends and used the full rev range.
Great fun, although unjustified in terms of cost, room and type at the moment.
Anyhoo, fella down my road has just bought it and it is sitting on his drive. Pootles up the road in it (thankfully, kids and dogs around) and I can't help give it a knowing look every time I walk past it.

I've seen more around than I have Golf R's, but then I tend to look out for the 2 Series, whereas to me the R is just another Golf. Having said that I did see a Golf R on lunch just now, being driven like a pleb undertaking people round roundabouts going up the Hagley Road.
From what I've seen the M235i / 2 Series M Sports are lovely looking cars, as is common with BMW's recently though, the SE looks a bit....wrong.
I did look at a 228i M Sport when I was buying the 125i, but the wait was too long (which may be affecting the number on the roads), and engine was lacking cylinders for me. Lovely looking little cars though.

Think (close though) I prefer it over the old one series
