With a difference another what car

Right so we have many threads with silly budgets wanting the best car. So here's one

What car on the motabilty scheme would you choose? ( I will burn and die in another life)

Before any1 asks I am entitled to 1 due to injuries so I need anything other than a small car due to a dog and little girl and we do a Scotland trip every month and a auto too.

Why bother justifying yourself? It's nobody's business but your own.

Either way... What's your budget for the advanced payment? If you want something reliable, comfy, capable of swallowing a dog and child and all the gumph that goes with it, and an auto capable of comfortably munching occasional motorway miles I'd be looking at an Octavia DSG. They're fairly inexpensive with even SE trim in an estate with the 1.2 TSI being only £895 down. The (massive) hatch and S spec even less, and if you'd prefer diesel the 1.6 TDI is around £695 down if you don't care about parking sensors and an arm rest.

That'd be my choice but also consider the Focus estate, Astra estate (more room than the Insignia believe it or not), and Mazda 6 - though the latter is more expensive by far.

Everyone else on Motability seems to get a Qashqai so that must be worth a look. I like the Octavia idea though, but I'd prefer a Yeti personally if that fits the budget.

As you have no worries about depreciation, or breakdowns how about an Alfa Giulietta, or maybe a Citroen DS4?

Not a bad motor, but...

Advance Payment £2,695.00

Probably a bit rich for most, seeing as you don't get the cash back (nor anything on the return of the car). It's essentially dead money on top of the leasing costs. I'd also take a DSG over a Ford auto, but I realise that's subjective.

Saves hassle when the trolls arrive.

My budget is open looking at the S max and skoda but just pointing some more options OH likes the French DS4 or Picasso but the old man in me likes the v70

I wouldn't feed the trolls mate, let alone pre-empt them.

If you're not worried about the advance payment I'd definitely be looking at a decent spec Octavia with the 2.0 CR TDI or 1.4TSI. The Superb is a lovely cruiser (I had a 60 plate Greenline Superb) but with the Octavia refit the mk3 is now at what I'd consider Superb comfort inside with better handling and enjoyment.

The Picasso is a hateful thing. The motoring press seem to salivate over them but I have to say after test driving the top of the range C4 Picasso recently I hated it. I actually turned it around and drove back to the dealership early. The gearbox is like a stick in a bucket of mud, it literally struggled to get up to NSL on a section of A road (it was screaming by 60mph in top gear and took ages to finally hit 70), and it was generally horrid.

I've driven diesels for the last 10 years and only now am switching to a 1.4TSI turbo petrol. I also used to own a Berlingo Multispace 1.6 HDi 90ps so I'm not just generally anti-French or anti-diesel. Test drive one, but I think you'll find them woeful.

There's always a nice Mondeo estate if budget isn't overly concerning. They're cheaper than the S Max and will provide a nicer drive imho. You're not going to need MPV space for one dog and one child (hear speaketh the voice of experience).

EDIT: As above, the Qashqai is worth a look but for my money they're too middle-of-every-road. They're moderate on economy, so-so handling and have deceptively little room (I'm 6'4" and they can't accommodate my height. The dealer literally shrugged and said try another marque). The Kia Sportage and even a Cee'd SW are worth a punt if you're not overly concerned with driving dynamics and whatnot. They're basically solid, very well put together and look the part, and although the engines won't set anything alight they are decent on fuel and comfy.

Well I've looked at the Audi a3 with the 1.4 tsi engines. I'm trying not to buy anything bigger than I have now as the 320 touring is the right size. So that might be on the cards along with a x1.

I'm generally amazed the choice people have on this. So it makes sense why so many people with commit fraud etc to be on it.

You talk about trolls but then build an epic sized bonfire... and pour petrol on it. LOL The level of fraud in DLA is miniscule according to even DWP figures, and the misuse of Motability is even lower. The choice available isn't that good once you look closer. The top of the range engines are generally not on-book and with the maximum advance payment being capped you can't reach nicer cars like 5 series etc.

It's a great scheme for what it is, without a doubt. But I wouldn't say the range was amazing really. They're what they should be - dependable, useful and with a range of choice regards vehicle size and type. But you'd certainly not find many truly desirable cars on there. Most are shopping trolleys and load luggers with a few exceptions (mostly Ford Titaniums and Vauxhall Elites, but even then you're restricted on engines).
