Wing mirror kicked off my car - gutted

Argh, can’t believe this. I live on a small private road but I really only have enough driveway space for one car plus another in my garage. I have three cars so I often leave the Clio out on the main road in a layby, just 10 metres from our road. I park right up to the kerbstone, so I’m set back from the road and leave plenty of space for cars to park behind. The road isn’t busy and there’s always space to park. Most other houses have huge driveways, so parking isn’t an issue here.
Yet this morning I come back to the car to find someone has kicked the wing mirror off my Clio. Gutted. Luckily it was just the Clio and not our Golf or the TVR as I’d have been devastated, but we’ve lived here for 3 years and have always considered it a nice area with nice friendly neighbours. I suppose there’s always some idiot kid around at night though. I do find it odd that they didn’t touch the Meganne though.
Here’s where I live (road names blurred). I park in the unrestricted parking area circled in red, I live on the road highlighted with the red line. I’m 99% sure it was kids, but I do wonder if someone isn’t happy with my parking there. I just don’t see why, it’s public parking.
No real reason for this post, just vented my frustration!! There is a mark in the mud on the mirror, I tweeted to the local police and they told me to report it to 101. Not sure I can be bothered though....

Ignoring the likelihood of a Renault door mirror spontansouly falling off the car of its own accord, have you considered that maybe your brother's rallying expedition had something to do with this?
Ha, no I've been driving the car all week since his rallying expedition at the weekend, and I'm sure the mirror was securely mounted until this morning. You can clearly see the big plastic base has been snapped off. I must say, the mirrors on the Clio are well mounted and they are quite sturdy, so it would have taken quite a whack to have snapped one off.

checked CCTV and found three young lads late into the night (3am) walking down our street and one decided to cross diagonally towards our car and take a flying kick at the wing mirror and ran off. Image was grainy. Just some random act, no rhyme or reason, just p*ssed up I guess and did it "for a laugh"

The window 'rubber' looks a bit bubbly as well.
No deliveries that I know of, I leave quite early in the morning. Not bin day either. The window 'rubber' looks a bit bubbly as well.
That's just moisture on the window rubber, you can see the roof and windscreen it wet too.

This was my first though too. Terrible to see this, but if it's the first time in three years, rather than something that's a frequent occurrence, I guess it just has to be chalked up to 'one of those things'. An extremely infuriating, maybe costly 'thing'.
Since it was only one mirror smashed it was probably accidental. Although, of course, it's cowardly of whoever did it not to leave a note taking the blame - sounds like kids, as you say.
I hope it can be fixed with a minimum of fuss!

Also if had been driving round with a detached wing mirror it would have scored the paint as it swung back and forth.Sorry to hear about this, hopefully you can get it sorted quickly and cheaply. Who knows maybe the universe will replay the vandal with a bit of bad luck of their own.

Most likely idiot youths, but, as another poster has alluded to, don’t dismiss the possibility of a petty minded, busy body neighbour. The sort who will resent you for any number of reasons such as owning a ‘flashy’ sportscar, pruning a hedge the wrong way, leaving your dustbins in the wrong place and perhaps parking in ‘their’ layby.
Might be worthwhile knocking on the doors of the houses opposite to ask out if anybody saw/heard anything and judge their reactions...
