Sorry PH. Another What Car Thread - £2000 Cheap To Run Thing

Hi all.
Sorry for yet another "I can't make my mind up" what car thread.

Situation is we're getting a VW T5 camper van which is bloody brilliant. Unfortunately a) it means our BMW 330I is going to have to find a new home and b) we may need something small to use as a runabout (wife has a ~8 mile round trip commute 3 days a week via nursery for the mini-DBWs and apart from that all it'd get used for really.

So, with a max of £2000, what is there out there thats cheap to run, cheap to insure (the new van will be using our NCB so we'll be starting from scratch with whatever runabout we get) but isn't some dull, I've given up on life Honda Jazz type thing?

I was thinking about another 6N2 Polo GTI as I loved our old one but the gearbox was made of jelly and sprinkles when I believe it should have been made from whirly metal cogs and stuff.

Another possible option is something like a little Seat Arosa/VW Lupo type thing. I kinda like the styling but I think I'd be afraid of someone stepping on it by accident.

Other stuff?

Best off with petrol NA circa 2004 so a Polo or Lupo is always a sound bet.

For something a bit more intresting a clio sport.
