Oh no! Cheap what car thread!

Right.. I'm in need of a new commuter. Don't really want to spend anything more than £2500 - £3k at a push.

Criteria is simple really:

1. As much possible value for money
2. Diesel (23k a year) or something with 40mpg plus.
3. Bluetooth if possible but i could install something.
4. 4 doors.

Autotrader etc. isn't really doing it for me. What can PH do?

£2-3k, Diesel. Autotrader says 7,811 cars found....bit more info required I think.

Distance i guess will influence that number. I'm just looking for ideas on brands then i'll go looking for more.

VAG, BMW, Ford, Honda, Jag, Mercedes. Probably a good idea to look for a bigger engined saloon with the sort of mileage you want. You'll get more for your money and less stressed engines.

You could get a cracking Rover 75 / MG ZT diesel for that money. The diesel engine in a BMW unit used in 320Ds of the same era, however without swirl flaps. There's also a nice cheap remap available to take it to 160hp.

For £2500 you should get one with all the jobs done.

Plenty of choices at this price range how about an MG ZT, should easily get 45mpg, comfortable on long journeys and the BMW diesel unit should prove reliable.

A Jaguar X-Type, uses allot of Mondeo underpinnings, so comfortable, economical and reliable just watch out for the injectors and DPF on the diesels.
