Golf mk7 prices ??

Looking to get a 1.4 TSI for the missus - the SE spec.

Having a look through Auto Trader I don't understand the prices being asked. Pretty much all VW dealers are charging £16k for 13-plate stock. There is one private seller on the PH classifieds wanting £15k.

According to drivethedeal you can get a NEW 1.4 Match (similar spec) for a shade over £17k.

Now I haven't looked at used cars in ages, so is this the norm? Golf residuals are good, sure, but not even dropping the VAT in a year seems odd..

A lot of used prices seem quite strong across the board at the moment, as you've figured out it is often better value to go new in the first place if you can use a broker to get a good deal.

Would leasing one work out better value?

I think it works out slightly more than a PCP over the three years. I think the Mk7 lease deals favour the diesels.

But.. I wasn't considering a new one - if I can get a year old one and do HP it works out a lot cheaper! Not as fussed about the cost per month than I am the overall cost.

As its so new and most are still in the dealer network, VW are pretty much artificially increasing the residuals by controlling the used pricing themselves. Once they get a bit older and start hitting the auctions and getting sold privately values will take a hit accordingly. Seen this pattern happen quite a few times with newly launched cars.

People are prepared to pay good money for nearly new examples because it means skipping the queue of ordering a new one.

Also I'd suggest looking at the Audi A3 SE with the same engine as list prices last time I looked were the same, but in the long term the Audi will hold onto its value better because its got "rings on the front, rings on the back"...

Plus there's a white one with a vw dealer at £14980.

VW salesman said the 1.4 would be in in a few weeks if we placed a new order. So I don't think there is a huge wait time, not with that engine anyway.
