Cant decide between 2 massively different cars

so time to get a new toy, i have a company car and missus will be driving this most of the time with me using it on weekends for a lil bit of fun and modifying

Been offered a type r in black with the following

11 months mot . 5 tax . Good strong engine and box . Full Toyosports exhaust . Itg induction . Eibach springs . Cpl 02 simulator . Tinted windows . Has spots on bumber from stones . £2200

looks in good condition apart form the front bumper.

Missus isn't too keen on it as its 2.0 so tax and fuel will be a tad high on it.

I then looked into the Twingo gt and there is one local to me for around 2600 on a 08 plate with 55k on it, i'm thinking this is a good option as its small and nippy cheap tax etc... maybe too small as i want to install a sound system aswell and they basically have no boot.


She has now piped up and wants a Punto. i looked online and found they do the 1.4 t-jet found a few online not local for around 3k

While typing this I have just seen a mini cooper s for £3500 in local area and looks a nice car.


Just keep going back to the type r

any input?

Is the Punto a mistake though? I had the old punto gt. Constantly breaking down. Granted technology has come on since then but are they reliable?

So you are advising him based on your experience of a completely different car built over 10 years ago! I had a compleyely faultless 2007 Punto

What about a Seat leon cupra r?

They will lend themselves very well to a good sound system as the boot Is very big. Also a very practical with 4 doors so scores well on the swmbo scale.

All 3 would be a good laugh for you to drive and all will be good enough for a daily for her so it should be based on what you get on with after driving them.

From my experience:

Mini is dreadful on fuel but the noise is addictive and they handle really well.

Civic is immense fun to wring its neck, is really practical and easy to drive but with those mods is going to come across as a bit of a 'boyracer' image to some, also the CPL O2 simulators are only a cheap fix for a decat exhaust, they need to be mapped to perform properly without a cat and that is a good £600 job on these, K100/Kpro etc.

Seat Leon Cupra is not one I know much about but I think they look greats still, the brakes on the R are Brembo and are meant to be very good. Won't be quite as much fun as the other but probably the most spacious.

The Punto.....nah :P

I've got a T-Jet, and apart from dealer competence (not the cars fault at all) it owes me £100 for ARB drop links and gearbox oil and new wipers in 6000 miles.

I paid £4250 for a 58 plate with optional extra alloys, parking sensors, cruise control, chrome mirrors, uprated sound system and side stripes. It also had EBS drilled discs and greenstuff pads.

It's a cracking little car. with good tyres (Pirelli P Zero's are £120 a corner) and no mechanical faults its a lovely little drive, steering is numb, but it's accurate. and quite comfortable. If you're driving enthusiastically you get high 20-low 30, drive it normally, you get 35-38. Miss Daisy gets you about 42.
Pretty cheap to insure too, compared to a MK4 Golf GTI (which was also in budget) it's 300 cheaper to insure, but I am 20, so that probably doesn't help much..
