say goodbye to the paper Driving License

I see this as a good thing. should be easier when updating your address, adding removing points etc.

I feel there is a little bit of nostalgia with your paper license, but i dont see why you cant keep your current one.

Thoughts?

Personally think thats alot better, Saves hassle in a few situations!

I thought you meant the massive folding old school paper license. My parents both still have them since they haven't moved since 1998. The counterpart is a waste of time though, they get lost, ripped or anything like that. But this being the government it could have massive potential for failure.

So...another Government IT project that will probably be massively overspent (probably on consultancy fees), under-deliver and have to have yet more spent on it to brings up to scratch.

I'm skeptical too but it's hardly a massive job... The DVLA MOT checker thing works fine as does the tax checker. Personally I can't wait, the paper counterpart is a pain in the arse.

Come to think of it I've forgotten (or failed to find) it a few times when renting cars but it's never proved to be a problem beyond an annoying £10 surcharge on the rental bill. Presumably then the DVLA have something set up already?

I haven't moved since 1991 and don't have a photocard licence - just a larged folded paper one that considering it's 23 years old is doing fairly well but looking a bit dog eared!!

There was some chatter a while back on forcing people to convert to photo card but until I am forced to change I'll keep the paper one

Me too. Why pay and have the hassle to renew a new one every 10 years when the original paper one doesn't need to be renewed.

I'm in the same boat, had my paper licence since 1993 and I'm not changing !

I moved house just after they brought in the new photo cards so had to change, however it now means I've got a photo ID that fits in my wallet which is very useful.

Now they just need to make the driving licence into a generic ID card and ditch the stupid paper passport too.
