Volkwagen polo 1.2 70 PS 6R 2010

Hello there,

Didn't know what category to put this under.
Anyway, I have a 2010 Volkswagen Polo 1.2 6R 70ps.
I don't really know that much about the inner workings of an engine and don't have a garage or tools in order to poke around and find out for myself, although I would like to!
I have read that this car has a timing chain, no cams and certainly no cam belt, correct?
If so, at what mileage would you generally change the timing chain or what age?
It's about 4 years old now and has 48k on the clock.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

<Well> north of 150k miles, if at all (perhaps when excessively rattly at startup- even then not always (see K11 micras for details)).

Note some cars (BMW/Mini/VW IIRC) now seem to be struggling with chain "stretch" problems- probably not helped by the mega mileage service intervals they insist on putting on them ("But it makes the cost for fleets for three years usage so cheap") leading to chain wear and the highly stressed TSI type setups.

TL;DR: Oil and filter changes every 10k and on a low performance engine like that you'll be set for the life of the car.

It will have cams, otherwise the valves wouldn't move.

Its timing chain and should last the life of the car provided the engine is serviced and has oil-changes completed to schedule.

You only need to replace if it develops a problem such as stretching or rattling.
