Why are all season tyres so hard to find?(for my 5 series..)

Sorry this is so boring. But I want to put all season tyres on my F10 5'er touring, just like Honest John says I should. Seems like an excellent idea, no more arsing about with winter boots and that.

And lots of people make 'em apparently. He recommends Pirelli P6, but there are others like Toyo vario v2, Falken 'Euroall season (sic) and so on, probably fine and Toyo/Falken should require less of my pounds to buy than the Pirellis.

But can I find anything 'all season' in 245/45/R18? Even the P6's? Can I heckers like. Tried black circles, mytyres, camskill. No joy. Help me!

Thanks very much Mr Rizzo. Pneus online? What a curious name. And I was thinking here we go again on clicking your link, but I refined the search to all season (1 match) and found some dead proper looking Pirelli P7 all seasons for 120 each delivered. As my 10 year old would say, Baboosh!

Sure the profile isnt out slightly? If you went for 50 instead of 45 there seems to be more choice

45 is the OEM profile I think. Taller profile will be better for snow, but changing to 245/50 on the pneus website still only shows the P7s, but puts the price up to £206.

Check your handbook for recommended tyre sizes. Often a slightly different size is suggested for winter tyres which you could check out all-season availability for.

P.S. My old man is running premium winter tyres all year round on his 535d, he's a very keen driver (races sportscars at the weekend) and says they're perfectly adequate.

Our 5 touring came with Dunlop winters on the back only, and summer dunlops on the front - which was fine in winter, but in the spring on damp days the car became entertainingly oversteery even at slow speeds. Fine for me as I am the best driver in the whole world, but less good for t'wife and kids who are the main users.

I bought my WinterContacts from them, think they were dispatched from Germany but delivered by DPD with 48 hours of me placing the order.

I've bought tyres from that site (both Vredestein all seasons for the wife's Mazda and Yokohamas for my DD. Delivered (from Germany I believe) in a couple of days direct to the fitter. Very happy with them both times.

Just stick some Michelin Primacies on it and stop worrying.

If a 5-series with decent tyres doesn't have enough grip for you, trade it in for an X5. But even then if you live on a mountain and put Gucci tyres on it you'll be sliding straight towards the nearest ditch.

Round my way it's great fun in winter spotting all the Range Rovers which have slid off the road because their muppet drivers thought "4x4 on road tyres" meant "two tons of metal defy the laws of physics"!!!

Yep, go down in size on your wheels and it becomes easier. The V70 has 16"s during the winter and OEM 17"s during the summer. It's only the Pug which has 15"s all year round (easy to get same dimensions of both summer and winter tyre there).

Doesn't surprise me 18s are damn near impossible to find - you're almost up in SUV territory but without the sidewall depth.

Just ordered the Pirellis from the mysterious euro tyre megamarket that is pneus online, will feed back. Probably.
Yep, my 123 merc goes anywhere on her 15s, great in snow.
Actually changing the search to 17s made little difference to price and availability, and I don't want to buy new, smaller, wheels as I like the ones I've got. And why on earth would I want an off roader?
