Cars that leave you underwhelmed.

As a major car nut I'm always watching what's out and about on our roads and I'm a big fan of a wolf in sheets clothing, however I think that Merc have taken this a step too far. Now I'm a big fan of AMG and am the first to drop the windows when one rumbles by. But OMG the new E63...it's just so bloody plain, cheep exhausts they look fake, yet three years ago the exhaust on the back of am E63 was a top selling point. I saw one in some services on the M62 yesterday and it just blended in, even to a petrol head like me.

I know what you mean OP. I really did try to branch out when buying our latest car but:
- M5 looks instantly forgettable and the synthetic engine noise through the stereo makes me cringe at the thought
- M6 costs £98k before options, and my interpretation of Chris Harris' video review is that it's only fun if you can drive like an absolute tool on a track - ergo it will be dull for 100% of the driving we'd actually do with it
- E63 looks exactly the same as an E220 diesel with AMG bodykit and instantly forgettable
Now I'm in my 30s I want to avoid the old-manish for a while. I feel absolutely no need or desire to blend in with 60 million other people in the UK by purchasing the same grey car that everyone else has.

My friend at work has one. I've only had a passenger ride in it and was likewise impressed with it all-round really, but don't feel I need to own one.

Strangely this is how I always have felt about Aston Martins, excellent vehicles, but I don`t ever remember wanting one. A Strange attitude for a Pistonheader I know, but for some reason they just don't do a thing for me, (and not even when I wqs a kid in the James Bond DB5 days) Even the new ones just seem like (very) fast, very competent very expensive up market Fords to me good but not remarkable.otolith said:

That's interesting, I had one of these on an open track day at Goodwood and I was blown away....incredibly competent car....I appreciate it's not a GT3 but when you look at the price difference I'd go for one!When I was at the Porsche facility I never thought I got as much time as I would have liked to get used to the car.....and you can only push the limits so much with an instructor next to you.
