Is it time that there should be a limit reduction in view of large vans in lane 3 of 3 lane motorway.

I feel it is about time, that Transit sized vans and the similar, Sprinters, Movano, Crafter, Ducato, to name just a few.

I am sure you get the picture.

I think these are a menace in lane 3, due to the limited visibility afforded to following cars.

Probably not, just give yourself enough space to react if anything happens.

I'll bite. What do you think their limit should be? They're restricted to 60 on Dual Carriageways & 50 on Singles at the moment. The outside lane restriction IIRC only applies to vehicles of over 3.5 tonnes, which would normally be restricted to 56 anyway (62 for a bus).
Anyway, motorhomes & coaches are allowed to run at 70 on a motorway, albeit a coach will normally have a 62 mph limiter, why not a van?

^^^ This.

Also it's so often the case (like this) IMO that people try to fix non-existent problems to the detriment of everyone else and we end up with things like 20mph zones.

I don't think so no. I was moving much faster than most of the plonkers on a recent trip to Newquay down the m4 and m5 in a Vivaro.

Why should I not be allowed to overtake like a small vehicle?

I can categorically say that I've never been held up on a 3 lane motorway by a Sprinter or a Transit.

Certain vans would be prohibited anyway. But run of the mill < 3.5t not a problem.

I never have a problem. Too close are we?

No different to following a big 4x4. Ban vans and anything big from the fast lane if HGVs are restricted to the inside lane only.

If you can't see around a van you must be too close. You should surely drive far back enough so you can see ahead. And in that vein, our new shape transit in work isnt much bigger just boxier than the bosses Discovery. Most people would probably complain about white vans going too fast and always behind you.

Is this the same guy that wanted tinted windows banned as they were 'dangerous because of the visibility, as you can't see through the car'?

I have noticed a large number of vans having limiters fitted, so they could soon be crawling along lane 3 at 65mph smile

It's ludicrous modern vans are limited to lower speeds away from motorways.

Big 4x4s have similar dimensions to some vans,so seeing round them is similar.

Let's ban them too......and any car below 1.5 litres, not fast enough.

[not sure if I'm serious]

All the OP needs to do is not travel so close to the vehicle in front.

I've never seen any van pay any attention to the different limits. And as others have mentioned, vans in lane 3 are normally motoring along (around the m25 at least)
