So ST150 vs ST170?
Does the facelift the Mk4 get count as a Mk all of it's own?
The facelift Mk4 was called the Mk5 since it had such a different face.Does the facelift the Mk4 get count as a Mk all of it's own?
Back on topic, If I could have a mk6 ST500 I'd go for that. A fully loaded one with climate and the tech pack. Since the newest Mk6 fiesta will be 4-5 years newer than a Mk1 Focus.
I had an st170 many moons ago. Fantastic car and a bargain for what you can pick one up for at today's prices. Handles very well and I never had a single problem with mine. Only downside is it always felt a bit 'sluggish' to me. You really had to work the engine to get it moving. I spent quite a bit of money on mine to try and get more out of it, bluefin, exhaust, adjustable vernier, k&n panel filter, up rated coil, leads ect, but the engine still felt lacking. After all I spent on the engine it made 174bhp on the rollers. Have a look over on the focus st forum. I don't think a single member on there ever made the quoted 170bhp on a standard car. I can even remember some being as low as 150bhp! Although I loved the car, I couldn't help but feel like my money would of been better spent on a civic type r at the time.
I'd go for the ST170. Accept that it's a quick car, but not a fast car and definitely EP3 type fast, and enjoy it for what it is. Great looking things, although I have found the used values looking rather stiff of late, for such a derided car!
EDIT: Further to the fact above that they also usually don't make 170bhp at the rolling road. Ford were up to their old tricks again with the Focus RS mk2, quoted as 300bhp but Mountune said they'd never had one make more than 269bhp from the factory!

I have a MK 6 ST and regularly drive my dads ST170. Given the choice is have an ST500 Fiesta tbh.
Nothing wrong with the Focus, handles well enough and it's a nice car, but it's more of a reasonably quick cruiser unless you the rev the nuts off the engine and really work it hard.
The Fiesta in my eyes is much more fun to drive, the engine revs quicker, it seems to pull easier from low revs and is a definite hoot in the corners and on B road blasts. Has basically the same equipment if you get a 500 too. Stick some Eibach -35mm springs on it to stop it looking like a 4by4 and they're awesome little cars, if not the fastest in its sector.
