Hi

Would like to get some peoples views and opinions on this.

I currently own two cars, a BMW E36 328i Sport which is a weekend/toy car and a Corsa C 1.4 petrol which is used as an everyday daily drive.

Seen as insurance is starting to fall for me turning 21 I'm thinking of getting a different daily drive. I would want a smaller hatchback, diesel ( Cover 54 miles a day at least to work and back ) that has a sporty feel and setup to it. I would be looking to spend up to 6k.

One of the first thing that springs to mind would be a MK4 Ibiza Cupra TDI, I have always liked the look of the MK4, the interior is abit dull I admit but serves its purpose, the fuel economy is very good for the performance and from talking to current owners, they really do drive well.

What other options could people suggest? Or does anyone have experience of using/owning the Cupra?

Any comments welcome smile

Thanks
Alex

A mk 6.5 Zetec S TDCi. Sweet Chassis and still a diesel. I like the look and they're not badly specced. There's a low mileage model here which looks pretty tasty in Moondust Silver Metallic.

If you want a newer car there's mk7 models which are more refined, but you'd be looking at higher mileage models... Like this.

And finally. There's a rare 130BHP model of the 1.9 TDi Polo around. Quick, brilliant fuel economy and it is a VW so you can retain some badge snobbery. The engine in them will last forever also. And a 6 speed 'box! But as mentioned they're rare... Nice ones go quickly too.

Isn't that just the Ibiza the OP mentions in his post but the polo version? surely you're better off in the Seat and not paying the premium for that "wow such vw" badge

Two cars at 21 ? Well done that man.

Taking into account the mileage you do on your commute and with your weekend toy, presumably you do about 15,000 a year ? With this in mind, why not sell both cars and get just the one you can enjoy all the time - sat in traffic during the week in a car such as a Corsa must be a soul destroying experience.

What about something like a Z4 or an S2000 ? Appreciate insurance will be a tad steep for someone of your age (lucky sod) but at the moment your paying two separate premiums so surely the difference - if any - won't be too great ?

Just a thought and happy hunting.

Just realised that. Yes. boxedin

But it's also made me realise if OP wants even less of the 'ooh' Badgeness then a Fabia vRS? There is quite a few of them. There was one on PH carpool a while ago too.

I'm not really sure on the Fiesta idea, while I do think they are very good cars to own, they are very good to drive, they are very reasonable cost wise to own and are fairly reliable they just don't do anything for me, to say they are boring would be unfair, I just have no desire to own one.

The mileage I cover at the minute is abit of a grey area. I have recently started a new job which is the 54 mile commute, but with my previous job I covered around 30 - 35k a year. I have owned the Corsa for 2 1/2 years and covered 70k miles so to be honest I am unsure what mileage I will do.

I have considered just one car but to be honest I really enjoy owning two, while it may be more expensive I don't mind, driving and the whole aspect of owning a car is my favourite hobby so I really don't mind. I have considered a S2000 but with being 6ft 5" I don't think I would comfortably fit.

A golf or even an A3 could be a possibility

The OP was actually talking about the PD160 TDi (found in the Ibiza Cupra). The Fabia vRS and that Polo have the PD130 engine in them, which is not quite the same.
I had a 2006 Ibiza PD100 for a year, did 35k miles and averaged 63mpg or something stupid (most of my miles were on the motorway). SeatCupra.net (I think) is the big owners forum and there are plenty of people on there with the Cupra Diesel - they're good cars!
