Having run a rover 75 for the last 6 months I now find myself craving something small and nippy. I've been hankering after a mini for a while now but still haven't taken the plunge mainly because there really aren't any good ones for my budget of about £1500. So basically what I'm looking for is something with similar go-kart handling characteristics to an old mini but less rusty and for £1500, any suggestions?

Failing that, anything else fun and a little bit quick in my budget. It needs to be fairly reasonable to insure and have 4/5 seats (doesn't matter if they're tiny since it's not me who sits in them) other than that I'm not picky. I've had a little look at Ford Pumas but I'm not convinced there are any rust free ones left.

You can still get a Metro Turbo for that money.

Really? Please send me details.

Sport Ka or Puma is the answer but will be a bit rusty but for £1500 that's to be expected (can be patched up come mot time).

Spitfire, Imp, Fiat X19. No show stoppers at this money but may find something?

The Fords are a good idea, I think I'd go for a Peugeot 205 or early 106.

The good 205s seem to lurk on Car And Classic.

Totally agree. I'd avoid old crap like Imps and Spitfires. They weren't much good 40 years ago and they're certainly no good today.
